“I was happy he said it,” Albert Hughes shares.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT John Wick director Chad Stahelski shared some key advice with the team behind the spinoff prequel The Continental. Consisting of three episodes, the Peacock show will explore the origins of the franchise's hotel-for-assassins. It will do so through the eyes of a young Winston Scott, who is portrayed in the movies by Ian McShane.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter to preview The Continental, director Albert Hughes shares the advice he received from executive producer Chad Stahelski. The executive producer, who directed all four John Wick movies, told Hughes: "basically do what you need to do that inspires you." Read the full quote below:
“We did a Zoom and he was excited to talk and tell me [to] basically do what you need to do that inspires you. I was happy he said it because I don’t think I would ever want to go into any man or woman’s sandbox and duplicate what they do.” What The Reactions Have Been To The Continental The Continental has drawn generally negative reviews, with several criticizing the story for its pacing and sluggishness in terms of setting up the story. While this is a general problem of streaming shows, which often make the mistake of stretching out the premise, the prequel has also garnered negative marks in other areas. Perhaps more damningly, the reviews note that the prequel's action scenes become indistinguishable and fairly generic.
Given its connection to John Wick, which is lauded for its action, even when the story comes across as thin, the spinoff wobbles in one key area. The Continental casting of Mel Gibson has similarly been a source of derision. Even setting aside the actor's various controversies, reviewers have found that Gibson's performance as Cormac leaves a lot to be desired.Still, The Continental is only three episodes long.
