The First Minister has shared a letter written to the bosses of the world's leading social media giants after they were blamed for spreading lies which incited riots in England.
John Swinney has demanded social media moguls like Elon Musk take "immediate action" to clamp down on racism and disinformation being spread on their platforms.
X, owned by billionaire Elon Musk, has been particularly criticised for the amount of racist material being shared on its platform. The SNP leader added: "It is clear to me that social media platforms have a duty to take action to ensure that individuals in our society are not subjected to hate and threatening behaviour, and that communities are protected from violent disorder.
"Everyone has a role in stopping the spread of misinformation. You and your platform have a specific responsibility to do so."
