The New York Giants are reportedly working on finalizing a deal to hire John Harbaugh as their next head coach.
The New York Giants have been zeroed in on John Harbaugh since the moment they realized he was available. When the Baltimore Ravens decided to cut ties with their longtime head coach, the Giants shifted their priorities and instantly became one of the top organizations on Harbaugh’s short list of desired destinations.
On Wednesday, Harbaugh and the Giants had an in-person meeting, which marked the first of his coaching free agency this offseason. According to The Athletic, the chances of Harbaugh leaving New Jersey with the Giants' job right away were slim. Harbaugh reportedly wanted to check out at least one more potential team, the Tennessee Titans. The veteran coach had a meeting scheduled with the Titans on Thursday. He spoke with the Atlanta Falcons earlier this week. However, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Harbaugh is working to finalize an agreement to join the Giants The Giants cut ties with Brian Daboll after 61 games across several seasons. Despite earning Coach of the Year honors in 2022, the Giants struggled to find any follow-up success. In November, Daboll was replaced by his offensive coordinator, Mike Kafka. During the short-lived Kafka run, the Giants secured a 2-5 record. They finished the 2025 NFL season with a 4-13 record, placing them last in the NFC East. Harbaugh left the Ravens with a 180-113 record during the regular season and a 13-11 record in the NFL Playoffs. The Giants will offer the veteran coach a challenging, yet exciting opportunity in a major NFL market with an exciting young quarterback in Jaxson Dart under center. According to Schefter, the Giants are still working through contract numbers, but they hope to have Harbaugh around for many years to come. After bouncing around from Ben McAdoo to Pat Shurmur, to Joe Judge, and Daboll, after having Tom Coughlin in charge for over a decade, the Giants are confident they can “restore stability“ with the former Ravens coach.
