Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) promised to return all donations from Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) following the New Jersey senator's indictment on corruption charges.
Fetterman spokesman Joe Calvello told the Messenger that the Pennsylvania senator was in the process of returning the donations, and the comments included an obvious slight against the New Jersey Democrat.“We are in the process of returning the money in envelopes stuffed with $100 bills,” he said, referencing the allegation that Menendez stored much of his ill-gotten wealth in stacks of hundred-dollar bills.
The New Jersey Democrat and his wife, Nadine, were indicted by a grand jury on bribery charges Friday. The charges revolved around an alleged corrupt relationship with three New Jersey businessmen and the government of Egypt. Fetterman was one of the first of a growing number of Democratic officials who have called on him to resign, but Menendez has adamantly refused, pleading innocence and alleging a conspiracy to take him down."Those who believe in justice believe in innocence until proven guilty.
"This is the same record of success these very same leaders have lauded all along. It is not lost on me how quickly some are rushing to judge a Latino and push him out of his seat. I am not going anywhere," he added.
