Four men arrested for questioning following the shooting of DCI John Caldwell have been released. Two remain in custody
Police investigating the attempted murder of DCI John Caldwell have tonight released a number of men.A total of six suspects were being held at Musgrave Police Station in Belfast city centre.A statement from the PSNI said: "Detectives have been granted more time to question a 47-year-old man arrested in connection with the investigation into the attempted murder of Detective Inspector John Caldwell in Omagh.
The senior police officer remains critically ill but stable after being shot multiple times by two masked gunmen outside a sports facility in Omagh last Wednesday night.The 22-year-old man was arrested in Coalisland in the early hours of Friday morning, with a man aged 43 then arrested in Stewartstown on Friday evening.The PSNI is looking at a statement reportedly from the New IRA claiming responsibility for the shooting of DCI John Caldwell in Omagh.
