Good Times and The Mary Tyler Moore Show actor John Amos has passed away due to natural causes at the age of 84.
“It is with heartfelt sadness that I share with you that my father has transitioned,” Amos’ son Kelly Christopher Amos said in a statement, via. “He was a man with the kindest heart and a heart of gold… and he was loved the world over. Many fans consider him their TV father. He lived a good life. His legacy will live on in his outstanding works in television and film as an actor.”
Amos’ acting career kicked off in 1970 when he played Weatherman Gordon “Gordy” Howard on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. He went on to play James Evan Sr. in 61 episodes of Good Times, though he was dismissed from the show at the end of Season 3 after clashing with the writers.
