The president is well known for branding his detractors with unfortunate sobriquets, but got given one of his own by Biden.
Both Biden and Trump have been particularly vocal about their distaste for one another, particularly following the launch of an impeachment inquiry looking into a July phone call between Trump Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, in which the pair discussed Biden and his son Hunter.
During the call, Trump said:"There's a lot of talk about Biden's son, that Biden stopped the prosecution and a lot of people want to find out about that so whatever you can do with the Attorney General would be great. Biden went around bragging that he stopped the prosecution so if you can look into it... It sounds horrible to me."
Around the time of the call, aid to Ukraine was held up by Trump, although the president has denied that this was part of a quid pro quo arrangement or that there was any pressure on Ukraine to investigate the Bidens.November 3, 2019 However, since the White House released a summary transcript of the call, the president has repeatedly made unsubstantiated claims that Hunter Biden improperly benefited from his family connections during his time on the board of Ukrainian company Burisma, and suggested that he and his father should be investigated.
For his part, Biden has denied the claims and came out swinging at the president in the October Democratic debate, addressing the allegations made by the president against himself and his son and commenting:"The president and his thugs are flat lying. He doesn't want me to be the candidate. If I'm the candidate, he knows I will beat him like a drum."
