President Joe Biden has condemned the suspected assassination attempt of his political rival. Shots rang out at the Donald Trump rally in Pennsylvania on Sunday morning AEST. Trump fell to the ground after grabbing at the right side of his face, returning to his feet with blood running down his cheek. Two people, including the suspected shooter, are reportedly dead. More than an hour after the shooting, Biden issued a statement saying he’d been briefed on the incident.

“Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for getting him to safety. There’s no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite as one nation to condemn it.” Standing up in front of the press a short time later, Biden said he had attempted to get in contact with Trump. “I have tried to get a hold of Donald who is with his doctors, apparently he’s been doing well, I plan on talking to him shortly I hope,” he said.
