Anthony Albanese's office confirmed US President Joe Biden has cancelled his visit to Australia next week as the debt ceiling crisis continues to threaten the United States government.
“The President and I agreed that we would work to reschedule his visit to Australia at the earliest opportunity.
"The President spoke to Prime Minister Albanese earlier today to inform him that he will be postponing his trip to Australia," it said. ð¨Source confirms POTUS will cancel travel to Australia and Papua New Guinea and return to the US after the G7 in Japan - following criticism he planned to be overseas for 8 of the 16 remaining days before the country could default without a deal to raise the debt limit.The White House said"revitalizing and reinvigorating" the United States'alliances and advancing partnerships is a key priority of Mr Biden's.
This came after confirmation on Tuesday night Mr Biden would address Parliament in Canberra on May 23 before attending the Quad Leaders’ Summit in Sydney the next day.
