An article about Donald Trump in The Atlantic is prompting outrage on both ends of the political spectrum weeks ahead of the presidential election. The article, written by Atlantic Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey Goldberg , begins with a scene from Trump's presidency in which Trump offered to pay funeral expenses for slain Texas soldier Vanessa Guillen . Guillen, 20, a Mexican American , was bludgeoned to death by a fellow soldier at Fort Hood in 2020. The slaying made national news.

Meadows also said The Atlantic's account was untrue. Vanessa Guillen's sister Mayra took to X to dispute the report, saying Trump showed her family nothing but respect.
