Jin Wei savours return to elite level of the game again

GOH Jin Wei is enjoying playing in a big tournament again after an energy-sapping year.

Last year, the independent women’s singles shuttler had to play in many lower-level tournaments as she looked to work her way up the rankings again after returning from a colectomy surgery.

Yesterday, in her first Super 1000 tournament since the 2019 All-England, the 22-year-old did well to reach the second round after beating Germany’s world No. 26 Yvonne Li 21-11, 21-18 at the Axiata Arena. “Competing here is different. There’s more pressure but I like it and I’m using it as an added motivation,” said Jin Wei.

“For now, I’m not thinking of winning or losing but I hope I can give her a tough fight. I’ve got nothing to lose as she is the favourite.”
