Cox is the Commanding Director of Naval History and Heritage. He has studied the former president and as a career Navy officer, Cox is quick to remind you that Carter was the only Annapolis graduate to go on to become President of the United States."He's going through the course; he's expecting to graduate in 45 or 46 and be involved in the invasion of Japan.
Carter wanted a career in the Navy but that was cut short after his father died unexpectedly in 1953. Carter returned to Plains, Georgia to oversee the family peanut farm. He got involved in politics and eventually ran for the highest office at a time of great upheaval. The country had just come through Watergate, and it was a sharply divided partisan landscape. Carter was viewed as honest and a man with morals and principles and he won. But his time, in an office plagued with problems.
"The Camp David Accords which resulted in the Israel-Egyptian Peace Treat was arguably one of the most momentous diplomatic achievements since WWII," said Cox.
