If it had been up to Jim Harbaugh, he'd be coaching the Minnesota Vikings right now, not leading Michigan into the College Football Playoff.
ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN - NOVEMBER 27: Head Coach Jim Harbaugh of the Michigan Wolverines celebrates with fans after defeating the Ohio State Buckeyes at Michigan Stadium on November 27, 2021 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. If it had been up to Jim Harbaugh, he’d be coaching the Minnesota Vikings right now, not leading Michigan into the College Football Playoff.
He stated he was returning to his alma mater, “with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind” and vowed to stay as long as U of M would have him. A year ago, he explained his interest in Minnesota by saying that he’s still haunted, and motivated, by the close Super Bowl loss. You get that close to the ultimate prize, and you want another chance.
“It's really biblical,” Harbaugh said a few weeks ago. “No man knows the future. I can't make any vows of what's going to happen or what's not gonna happen.” “And for those people that don't approve of the job we have done or would rather see somebody else coaching here, I think they will be most likely disappointed to learn that I will be back coaching the Wolverines in 2023."
Additionally, the transfer portal has proven to be ideal for Michigan. What factors heavily in the decision making of 17-year-olds — proximity to home, relentless attention from the head coach, weather, etc. — doesn’t necessarily matter to 20-to-22-year-olds who want playing time, top-line coaching and NFL development.
