Treasurer Jim Chalmers is set to release the Employment White Paper on Monday. “It will have a full employment goal lower than what is known as the NAIRU, the non-accelerating inflation rate of unemployment, which treasury sets at 4.25 per cent unemployment,' Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell said. The paper sets out a path for the government to “drive that figure down,” Mr Clennell said. “We’ve had a long period now with unemployment figures with a three in front of them. “Next week the Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil will release the government's migration review. “When it comes to issues like skills training and present labour shortages – the two things are very much linked.”

He said the surplus came down to being “all receipts”. “Has there been any reform or restructure of the tax system? No. Has there been any productivity gains? No. Has there been giving into the unions on everything? Yes.”

It comes in the wake of heavy criticism from workers' representatives after the former RBA governor Philip Lowe claimed unemployment will have to rise to bring inflation under control. September saw the RBA hold interest rates at 4.1 per cent as it continues to monitor inflation.
