PETALING JAYA: It was a great day for top seeds Kok Jia Zheng and Goh Shuen Tong in the boys’ and girls’ Under-16 event at the 100Plus National Junior Circuit first leg badminton tournament when both made it to the quarter-finals albeit in contrasting styles.
Selangor’s Jia Zheng fended off a strong challenge before prevailing with a 21-17,12-21,21-16 win against Darrell Chew of Penang in the second round at the Selangor Badminton Association Hall yesterday. The unseeded Yee Hern had little trouble disposing of Selangor’s Mohd Haziq Najib 21-5,21-15 in another second round match.
Meanwhile, in the girls’ singles, Sabah’s Shuen Tong justified her top billing by blowing away Chong Kei Wee 21-15,21-5 in just 20 minutes.Article type: free
