Gov. Shapiro, who is Jewish, was considered a top contender for the role, with some pointing out how he and Harris share backgrounds as prosecutors. Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker on Friday was even bold enough to Harvard Law School professor Alan Dershowitz took to X to suggest Harris’s decision to snub the Pennsylvania Democrat may have to do with his Jewish identity.
Lee Zeldin, a former Republican New York representative, echoed similar sentiments and claimed Harris had purposely avoided her “best pick.” It’s amazing that despite America’s right, left, and center agreeing that Josh Shapiro was Harris’ best pick for VP, at the end of the day, Shapiro being Jewish disqualified him,” he. “Today is the most dangerous day for Jews in America in almost 100 years. If Donald Trump doesn’t win, Jews will not be safe in America. I get no joy from that statement.”“Vice President Kamala Harris has my enthusiastic support,” Gov. Shapiro wrote.
