Footage has emerged of an Officeworks employee denying service to a Jewish man in Melbourne’s east when he asked the staffer to laminate a page of the Australian Jewish News newspaper.
Footage has emerged of the moment a man's request to have a Jewish newspaper laminated at an Officeworks in Melbourne 's east was denied by a"pro-Palestine" employee.
The Office Works manager took issue with the Jew because he wanted to laminate a page of the Australian Jewish News newspaper. After engaging in a back-and-forth about the woman’s opposition to Israel and the differences between this and anti-Semitism, she repeated her opposition to the task. She was then asked whether there was another staff member who may be comfortable laminating the article before the worker said the man could check with his colleague.
The man told the Anti-Defamation Commission the incident “caused my family and me significant distress” and arose concerns about “whether it is safe” for him to run errands in his community. “We have provided ongoing training and education to our team members so that they are aware of the legal requirements in respect of discrimination and of Officeworks’ policies and procedures,” the spokesperson said.ADC chairman Dr Dvir Abramovich decried the actions by the employee, telling SkyNews.com.au he was incensed by the treatment of this man.
