Jewell Loyd #24 of the Seattle Storm reacts during the second quarter against the Los Angeles Sparks at Climate Pledge Arena on June 11, 2024 in Seattle, Washington. After all, the single-season scoring record holder for Seattle requested a trade in December after an investigation into harassment of players turned up nothing punishable.
That didn't happen and now fans are wondering with both anticipation and some concern about what's next for Storm Basketball. Make no mistake, the Storm still has talent in Nneka Ogwumike and Skylar Diggins-Smith along with their designated core player Gabby Williams. But it's certainly a change from the teams of the last few years that won WNBA titles in 2018 and 2020.
Suffice to say, Storm fans aren't out of line to wonder how they made out in this trade. It's a risk, but one that was forced by circumstances surrounding Loyd's trade demand. How they weather this storm, pun intended, will chart the course of the franchise for years to come.
