It's a rough time to be a New York Jet. But all this losing comes with a silver lining for the fans.
lead Sunday to fall the Seahawks 26-21 – thanks, in large part, to former Jets Leonard Williams and Geno Smith – for their eighth loss in nine games. But unlike the players, who have little to look forward to with five more weeks left in this miserable season, the fans can at least look forward to all the changes coming this offseason and perhaps a very high draft pick in April.
Sure, we still don’t know who will be making the pick or who will be coaching the team. But watching how the results play out is something to help Jets fans forget the massive expectations this team had to start the season with. That’s one spot better than the Jets stood a week ago on the Monday morning after their Week 12 bye. The Jets’ loss to the Seahawks on Sunday dropped them to 3-9, guaranteeing their ninth straight losing season and their 13th season below .500 out of the last 14 – and it’s only a matter of time before they’re eliminated from the postseason, extending the longest active playoff drought in the NFL .Remarkably, there was almost no good news for the Jets in Week 13 when it comes to their 2024 draft pick as every team tied or with a worse record in the standings lost . The Jets did move up a spot because the Titans’ strength of schedule is now ranked more difficult than the Jets. The only team who started the week within a game of the Jets in the standings who won? The Cowboys, are now two games behind the Jets in the draft pick standings after improving to 5-7 with their win over the Giants and are now in line to pick No. 13. Three of the five teams who started the week with five wins also fell three games behind the Jets in the draft order standings with wins: the Colts, Bucs, and Rams. The final game of Week 13 could still impact the Jets: The Broncos host the Browns with Cleveland now a half game behind the Jets in the draft pick standings and set to pick No. 8 overall. Cleveland likely can’t jump the Jets in the standings with a loss, but a win would drop them a full game behind and likely to the No. 11 pick.Like we said, every team tied or with a worse record lost aside from the Browns): the Jaguars lost to the Texans; the Raiders lost to the Chiefs; the Giants lost to the Cowboys; the Patriots lost to the Colts; The Panthers lost to the Bucs in overtime; and the Titans lost to the Commanders; the Saints lost to the Rams; the Bengals lost to the Steelers; and the Bears lost to the Lions. Two of the five teams who started the week with five wins also lost: the Dolphins fell to the Packers; and the 49ers fell to the Bills. The Jets haven’t been mathematically eliminated from the postseason yet, but that would happen as soon as this weekend with a loss to the Dolphins. And even if they beat the Dolphins in Miami for the first time in since the final game of the 2011 season, it’s still just a matter of time because even if the Jets somehow won the final five games , their chances of making the postseason are just 2% according to the The Jets also still have just a 2% chance of earning the No. 1 draft pick, according to the NYT simulator. But if they lose out that chance goes up to about t chance of earning the No. 1 overall pick; and even if they lose out to finish 3-14, the likelihood only goes up to about 28%, which is about 12% lower than it was a week ago – like we said, Week 13 didn’t help the Jets’ chances of getting a higher draft pick much, even if they moved up a spot. Right now, the Jets are in the No. 6 position, but remember that’s if the season ended today, which it doesn’t. The NYT simulator isWill Jets bench Aaron Rodgers after brutal loss to Seahawks?
