New Jets coach Aaron Glenn has appointed former Panthers, Browns, and 49ers defensive coordinator, Perry Wilks, to lead his defense. Wilks brings significant experience and will allow Glenn to focus on managing the game as head coach.
Jets coach Aaron Glenn began filling out his coaching staff Wednesday, a week after he became a head coach for the first time. And Glenn is going with one of the most experienced assistants in the league to fill one the most important jobs on his staff.
But finding the right defensive coordinator was easily his second-most important decision. And in Wilks, Glenn brings in an experienced defensive mind he can trust run the unit on game day and get them prepared for the Week. In the last eight seasons, Wilks has been the defensive coordinator for the Panthers, Browns, and 49ers.
The 49ers parted ways with Wilks in February and he spent the last year as a volunteer advisor at UNC Charlotte. He interviewed for the North Carolina head coach job which was filled by Bill Belichick.
