The New York Jets played their first preseason game Saturday against the Commanders.
The Jets had just gone to their third-string quarterback Andrew Peasley in Saturday’s preseason opener against the Commanders . But rookie running back Braelon Allen gave every one a reason to pay attention early in the second quarter, when the Jets gave him the ball for three straight carries.
Allen finished with a game-high 54 yards on nine carries and impressed everyone, with his ability to fight through contact.“He’s a real, big powerful guy,” Hall told CBS during the broadcast. “And I feel like I’m a little smaller, but I’m a big powerful guy too.
The Jets also started Olu Fashanu , Xavier Newman , Wes Schweitzer and Max Mitchell . Fashanu had a quiet but solid day, playing the entire first half along with Newman. Simpson, Mitchell and Tippmann all left the game before the end of the first quarter. As Haason Reddick’s holdout continues, everyone knows that Jermaine Johnson is the Jets’ top edge rusher.
A few plays later, Daniels scored on a three-yard touchdown run after playing the option to perfection. It was a very small sample size for one of the NFL’s most-talked-about quarterbacks, but a good start to his professional career. He finished 2 of 3 for 45 yards and the three-yard touchdown run.∗Rookie cornerback Qwan’tez Stiggers continues to impress. He was flying around the field in the first half and made four tackles including one for a loss.
