The New York Jets reportedly are acquiring the quarterback they drafted 13 years ago, Geno Smith, in a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Here are the key dates to know for the 2026 NFL offseason, from free agency to the draft in Pittsburgh and training camp.reported the deal Tuesday, adding that the teams will swap late-round picks. A 2026 seventh-rounder will go back to the Jets with Smith, while the Raiders pick up a 2026 sixth-rounder.
The Jets are in need of a quarterback after last season's trio of Justin Fields, Brady Cook and Tyrod Taylor went 3-14 for first-year coach Aaron Glenn. Fields and Cook are still on the roster, but Taylor is currently a free agent.by the Jets back in 2013 and played four years for the club. He started all 16 games as a rookie and 13 in his second season before two years as a backup. Since leaving the Jets, Smith has gone through ups and downs with various franchises. He started one game for the New York Giants in 2017 .Last year, Smith was traded to the Raiders for a third-round pick to reunite him with head coach Pete Carroll. They couldn't recapture their magic in Sin City, though, as the Raiders sank to the bottom of the NFL by the end of the season. Smith led the league with 17 interceptions in 2025. The Raiders, who have the No. 1 overall pick, are expected to select Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza in April's draft. The national champion and Heisman winner won't have any competition for the starting job now with Smith on the way out.
