The New York Jets have some even bigger question marks at wide receiver now.
But beyond Wilson, the Jets have question marks in the receiver room, which includes three other locks to make the roster: Allen Lazard, Mecole Hardman, and Randall Cobb.
But getting a deal done seems unrealistic for several reasons. The Raiders would have to eat a ton of dead cap to move on from Adams: more than $30 million. And the Jets would need to do some serious salary cap juggling in the years ahead and make a deal without using one of their top two picks for 2024 — because they’re tied up as potential compensation for Packers in the trade for Rodgers.
The frontrunners are likely Brownlee, Charles, Taylor and Irving and Erickson. Erickson and Taylor are the only ones with NFL experience. Taylor played with Rodgers for 25 games over two seasons in Green Bay, which could give him the advantage. But no matter what they do, they’ll be keeping a journeyman or an unproven quantity.
Cook eases the load for Breece Hall as he returns from a torn ACL. And he’s a proven weapon as a pass catcher: he’s had at least 295 receiving yards in four of the last five seasons including more than 500 in 2019.
