JetBlue Airways has opened voluntary separation bids for its pilots, offering a generous severance package of up to 55 hours of their hourly pay rate. The program aims to address potential pilot shortages and is available to pilots who are 59 years old or older on or before March 31st.

JetBlue Airways has opened voluntary separation bids for its pilots, according to a letter of agreement seen by CNBC and shared by the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA). The bids will close on February 7th. The agreement between JetBlue and the union outlines a generous separation package, paying pilots 55 hours of their hourly pay rate up to their mandatory retirement date or 18 months from the separation agreement, whichever comes first. The agreement provides specific examples of payouts.

For instance, an Airbus A320 captain, 12 years into their career and set to turn 65 in December 2027, would receive $416,293.02. In another example, an Embraer E190 captain with eight years of experience who will turn 65 at the end of the year would receive $160,858.91.To be eligible for the voluntary separation program, pilots must be 59 years old or older on or before March 31st. This offer comes as JetBlue prepares to release its quarterly earnings on Tuesday and amidst a backdrop of industry-wide challenges including pilot shortages. JetBlue did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
