In a recent interview with CBS News, the 41-year-old actor, best known for his role in the movie 'The Social Network,' shed light on his decision to join the growing number of celebrities who have opted out of Tinseltown. Eisenberg revealed that he has spent the last decade on and off in Indiana, finding solace in its atmosphere.
He admitted that he's not drawn to careers within an industry that feels inherently unstable to him. The actor reminisced about his long-standing connection with Bloomington, Indiana, his wife Anna Strout's hometown, which he described as one of the great American cities. He and Strout, who rekindled their romance in 2015 after initially dating in 2002, have been making trips to Bloomington for the past 20 years. Initially, the couple moved to Indiana to provide care for Strout's ailing mother, Toby Strout, who had served as the executive director of the domestic violence shelter Middle Way House. Following the birth of their son, Banner, in 2016, and the onset of the pandemic in 2020, Eisenberg and Strout found themselves residing in Indiana for an extended period. During the pandemic, with acting work scarce, Eisenberg dedicated his time to volunteering at the shelter, an experience he described as the happiest time of his life. He found fulfillment in performing tasks like painting walls and fixing garbage disposals, relishing the feeling of accomplishment without external critique or judgment. Eisenberg emphasized that this newfound sense of purpose outside the entertainment industry brought him immense satisfaction. He shared that he felt a newfound sense of security, knowing that he could be content regardless of his acting career. Currently, Eisenberg is preparing for the 2025 Academy Awards after receiving a nomination for best screenplay for his film 'A Real Pain,' which he also directed and co-starred in alongside Kieran Culkin. He explained that his Indiana lifestyle allows him to focus more on writing screenplays rather than constantly seeking acting roles.
