Wildwood Mayor Pete Byron will be sentenced on Aug. 2

and while awaiting trial on state charges that he and two Wildwood elected officials falsified documents to qualify for coverage under the State Health Benefits Plan.

“I have no intention on [sic] resigning at this time,” Byron said in a text message sent Thursday. He declined further comment. Byron was elected to the three-member Wildwood commission in 2011, a year after the N.J. Legislature changed eligibility rules for elected officials regarding the State Health Benefits Plan. Under the change, elected officials had to work steady, full-time hours for their municipality – defined as 35 hours a week – to be enrolled in the State Health Benefits Plan.
