A Jersey Shore drawbridge thats been in the open position while waiting for parts is expected to be fixed and working by the month's end.
over the Shark River between Avon and Belmar in Monmouth County has been stuck in the open position since a mechanical failure resulted in “significant damage” to the machinery that raises and lowers North Bridge span.
While that falls slightly short of the the DOT’s goal to complete the work by Memorial Day, DOT crews will work through the holiday weekend installing parts needed to lower and open the bridge and making other repairs. That work is expected to be completed by Monday, May 27, DOT officials said. The bridge was built in 1932 and the state had to fabricating parts to repair the mechanism that opens and closes the bridge, Schapiro said in an earlier interview.
