Jersey City, which has struggled with regulating payroll tax compliance since its inception, increased collections by a whopping in this year, City Councilman James Solomon said Wednesday.from $67.
7 million in 2023 to $103 million this year. In a news release, Solomon cited more than 100 news businesses registering with the city and a crackdown on those who fell behind in payments.
“Large corporations across the city have an obligation to pay into the city’s payroll tax, which helps fund our city’s public schools,” Solomon said. “I am thrilled that our office’s efforts to raise awareness around the tax has netted over $103 million for our public schools, and I am incredibly grateful to City Hall staff and the administration for their help.”
