Dozens of Duke graduates walked out of Sunday's ceremony as comedian Jerry Seinfeld was introduced.
In this photo provided by Duke University , commencement speaker Jerry Seinfeld laughs on stage during the school's graduation ceremony, Sunday, May 12, 2024, in Durham, N.C. A tiny contingent of Duke graduates opposed the pro- Israel comedian speaking at their commencement Sunday, with about 30 of the 7,000 students leaving their seats and chanting âFree Palestine!â amid a mix of boos and cheers.
Jessica Seinfeld also claimed the rest of the graduates were responsible for the cheers that followed the walkout. “Privilege is a word that has taken quite a beating lately. Privilege today seems to be the worst thing you can have. I would like to take a moment to defend it,” Jerry Seinfeld said. “A lot of you are thinking, 'I can’t believe they invited this guy.' Too late. I say, use your privilege.”“The feedback has been exceptional- especially from Duke students! Hard to give to speech on graduation day that kids respond to, and my man did it. So proud,” she wrote.
