Jones' comment was at best misguided and at worst willfully dishonest.

It was still an odd comparison to make given how much more success the 49ers have had in that timeframe than the Cowboys.

Since 1996, the 49ers have won 15 playoff games while the Cowboys have won just five. Furthermore, in the past 25 years, San Francisco has appeared in seven NFC championship games, including three in the past four years, while the Cowboys haven’t been to one. And while it is true the 49ers have not won a Super Bowl in the past 25 years, the same can be said for 19 other teams. The Cowboys' streak of not making an NFC championship game is much more embarrassing. Since 1996, Dallas is one of just three teams in the conference to not appear in the title game.
