Charlotte Hornets center Nick Richards fouls San Antonio Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan Wednesday night, Oct. 19, 2022, in the AT&T Center as Sochan goes for a dunk during their regular season opening night matchup. As expected, 19-year-old rookie Jeremy Sochan became the youngest player in Spurs history to start the season opener Wednesday. The 6-foot-8 forward from Baylor finished with four points on 2 of 7 shooting.“It’s a learning process,” said Sochan, the No. 9 pick in the June draft.
“There’s definitely some places I can work on,” he added. “It’s good to have the first one out of the way.”Twice, he was swatted at the rim by Charlotte’s big front line. He also blew a chippy layup on a lob in the fourth quarter. Sochan said he noticed the difference in intensity from the end of the preseason to the start of the regular-season.Overall, Popovich was satisfied with Sochan’s first regular-season appearance.“The little mistakes, it happens,” Keldon Johnson said. “You can’t teach somebody to play hard and give everything they’ve got. That’s all we ask from Jeremy, and he gives it to us every day.”
