CHICAGO — A stiff neck kept shortstop Jeremy Peña out of the Astros’ starting lineup against the Chicago White Sox on Monday.
The team penciled Peña in its original lineup but removed him about 20 minutes before releasing it to the public. Peña described his condition as “day to day” and not serious. “I felt it during last night’s game and as the night went on, it got a little worse,” Peña said. “I’m just going to take it day by day. I don’t think it should be anything serious.”Houston Chronicle sports columnist Brian T. Smith discusses the criticism of the Astros’ lineup decisions, particularly the lack of playing time for newcomer Trey Mancini.
“I feel good at the plate,” Peña said on Monday. “You just want to feel good going into the game, have your approach and let the results take care of themselves.”
