Ohio State star Jeremiah Smith gave an interesting answer about Miami. It has some questioning if he could transfer back home to play for the Hurricanes.
Ohio State star receiver Jeremiah Smith gave an interesting answer about his hometown school, Miami, ahead of Wednesday night’s College Football Playoff semifinal game. Smith, who grew up about five miles from Hard Rock Stadium, the home of the Hurricanes, seriously considered Miami out of high school, before opting to play for the Buckeyes instead.
Now Smith is set to face off against Miami in the Cotton Bowl. He was asked ahead of the matchup if he thought he would see the Hurricanes in a College Football Playoff game.. “I mean, them guys had a great year this year. So I’m excited for them guys. “I’m excited for the game on New Year’s Eve and happy to see all the guys I grew up with that I played against in high school and played with in little league. So I’m very excited for this matchup.” Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal made landing Jeremiah Smith a priority after taking over the Miami program ahead of the 2022 season.Ohio StateHowever, Cristobal has since turned the Miami program around as it went 10-3 last year, barely missing out on a College Football Playoff berth, before making the CFP and beating Texas A&M in the first round this season.“Most likely, yeah, I’d have probably ended up going to Miami if things was on the right track then and there,” Smith said. “But I chose to stick with Ohio State.” With Ohio State receivers coach and offensive coordinator Brian Hartline leaving for USF, as well as Smith’s comments about Miami, some Buckeyes fans are worried Smith could consider entering the transfer portal after this season. “Ohio State gotta win. If they don’t, those portal rumors will come hot & heavy,” an Ohio State fan accountWhile there is some speculation about Smith’s future, he insists his only focus is on beating Miami Wednesday night. “I’m focused on where I’m at right now and that’s Ohio State,” he said. “Miami was a second option of mine coming out of high school. I almost did go to Miami, but I chose to come to Ohio State and it’s the best place for me.” Matt Connolly is a Sports Trending Reporter for PennLive, writing about the NFL, college sports and other topics.
