The Boys' big Vought Rising connection, explained.
Warning: MAJOR SPOILERS for The Boys series finale! Soldier Boy's abrupt departure is far from the end of his story. The Boys creator Eric Kripke has confirmed the Jensen Ackles-led spinoff series, Vought Rising, will solve key mysteries left in the series finale of the main show.
The Boys season 5 ended with Homelander dead, killed by Butcher and the rest of the Boys. While Butcher attempts to kill all Supes by putting the virus in Vought Tower's sprinkler system, he's ultimately killed by Hughie to stop him. This leaves Vought still operational, with Stan Edgar returning as CEO.

Lethal Gentle Protective Traumatized ↻ PLAY AGAIN In an interview with ScreenRant's Liam Crowley, Kripke confirmed that answers regarding Soldier Boy's absence in The Boys series finale will be addressed in Vought Rising. The series creator said he couldn't go into details about it, but that the decision to have Soldier Boy frozen in season 5, episode 7 and remain absent in the series finale would, eventually, make sense.
The focus of the final episode was about finishing the stories of the show's core characters, too, making the presentation a very intentional decision. Did you feel narratively that he couldn't be in this episode?
Eric Kripke: I think we told his story that we wanted to tell in this season. And part of it, I can only be very annoyingly coy to say that because we're deep into Vought Rising and we know what that story is. We know where that goes; a lot will make sense that might not make sense to the viewers at this exact moment, but hang in there, it all will.
I think it is the appropriate place to land it because again, The Boys is about The Boys, and part of the job of the season was wrapping up other people's supporting players' stories, so that on that final episode, we could really focus on the main characters. Soldier Boy had been a major character in The Boys season 5 following his awakening by Homelander in season 5, episode 2.
He's the reason why everyone discovered those who had V-One couldn't be impacted by the Supe virus, an important development that defined the focus for the rest of the season. While he grew closer with Homelander and eventually gave him the V-One, he never saw his son as an equal or above him. This led to him getting put back to sleep without showing up in the final episode of the series.
While his absence is felt in the final episode, particularly because of how important he'd been throughout season 5, it seems to be part of Kripke's long-term plan for The Boys universe. The story of Vought Rising takes place in the 1950s, with Ackles reprising his role as Soldier Boy during his early years. Other returnees include Aya Cash as Stormfront and Mason Dye as Bombsight, alongside newcomers Elizabeth Posey as Private Angel and Will Hochman as Torpedo.
The show focuses on a murder mystery, and is intended to run for multiple seasons. All that's clear is Stan Edgar is back in charge of Vought, meaning whatever happens to Soldier Boy in the present, it'll be under his jurisdiction. This could mean he stays frozen to prevent any other Supe conflicts, or he's unfrozen for a purpose that hasn't been revealed just yet.
Either way, with Vought Rising as the next chapter in The Boys universe, the spinoff will be where all answers about Soldier Boy will be unveiled. Kripke's statement indicates any questions about his fate and what the next chapter of his story looks like will be answered in the spinoff.
