Soldier Boy looks up at something off-screen in The Boys Season 5.
Summary Prime Video's hit superhero series The Boys Season 5 is fast approaching, and while talking with Collider's Steve Weintraub, stars Jensen Ackles and Laz Alonso tease a final season that gives"the fans everything they wanted to see.
" We also get some exciting new details about the upcoming spin-off Vought Rising from Soldier Boy himself, who has good news for fans of the flagship series. From creator and showrunner Eric Kripke, The Boys is bringing its Supe satire to a close at the height of Homelander's egomaniacal administration. The core group is divided, Annie is struggling to build a resistance to Homelander's Supe force, and Billy Butcher is armed with a virus that could change the course of history forever. Check out the video above or the transcript below, where Ackles and Alonso share their personal fandom moments, Alonso discusses M.M.'s concerning headspace this season, and Ackles hints at a"daddy issues" showdown. Ackles also discusses what fans can expect from Vought Rising, the spin-off series that will take us back to the 1950s for a murder mystery taking place during Vought's infancy, also starring The Boys' Aya Cash as Stormfront. Even 'The Boys' Stars Regret Not Meeting Their Heroes "Let the inner fan come out." COLLIDER: I've been asking this of everybody, recently. Have you ever asked for someone's autograph? LAZ ALONSO: I've asked for a picture. But I'll be honest, I kick myself more for the pictures I never asked for than for the ones that I did ask. Like just being shy or not wanting to bother somebody, and then later on down the line, you realize it's one of your heroes, and you really wish you could have had that moment forever. JENSEN ACKLES: I don't think I've ever in my adult life. When I was a kid, I'd hang around, and growing up in Dallas, I went to some Ranger games and got some autographs of some of the players and stuff like that. But as an adult, no, I don't think I've ever asked anybody. I've gone up and shaken some hands. But yeah, sometimes I wish I would have maybe just done a little something, but I don't know.ACKLES: Yeah. I did recently ask an actor for a favor, which was to make a happy birthday video for my daughter, who happened to be a big fan.You want to share who you asked, or do you want to keep it private?'The Boys' Season 5 Turns a Core Hero Into the Very Thing He Hates Ackles also teases a showdown of "daddy issues." Laz, do you think Mother's Milk is becoming more like Billy Butcher than he'd ever want to admit? ALONSO: Unfortunately, yes. In Season 5, he sees the world through Butcher’s eyes a lot more than he ever has in the previous four seasons. He's always been the guy that talks Butcher off the ledge. That doesn't exist anymore. I think he's more cynical. He's lost hope. And now he's gotten to the point where he's accepted that in order to beat the monster, you might have to become the monster, and he's willing to go there. Something that I'm also curious about, Jensen, is that Soldier Boy is the only one who could really take on Homelander, who can really go one-to-one, and I'm sure stuff happens this season between the two of you. What would you like to tease people without spoilers? ACKLES: I'll tease this, that when you get a son with daddy issues and a father who also has daddy issues, and you put them together, that generational trauma can sometimes come out in some pretty vicious words and actions. I've watched so much television, and some shows have done an amazing job at sticking the landing, and others are Game of Thrones. Just being honest. So, I am curious, when you read the series finale script, were you like, “Yeah, we're sticking the landing?” ACKLES: I purposefully only read my stuff because I didn't want to know. I know broad strokes of what happens, but I don't know how it happens because I wanted to watch it as a fan. ALONSO: For me, as I think any actor knows, that regardless of what's written on the page, it's what ends up being edited and shot and kept or not. So, the verdict is out. I don't know if we stuck the landing yet because I've only seen Episodes 1 and 2. That's it. But I can say, very, very, passionately, that we start off in classic Boys. Everything that made our show what people love, that's how we come out of the gate. So, I really do believe that Eric Kripke made the effort of giving the fans everything they wanted to see that they hadn't seen yet, but have been begging for this season. Posts By Tamera Jones 'Vought Rising' Explores Soldier Boy at the Height of His Power "It's going to feel familiar." Jensen, I have to ask you about Vought Rising. I'm so excited to see what's cooking with that series. I know the basics, but how would you compare it to The Boys in terms of what's going on in the series? ACKLES: Listen, it's going to feel familiar, as far as the format of it all, because I think that's taking what really works with The Boys and trying to do something a little bit different with it, certainly as a period piece in the 1950s. But I'll speak personally. The Soldier Boy aspect of it is I'm used to playing and we're used to seeing Soldier Boy in modern times, but he is a, I like to say, analog man in a digital world, so he's a fish out of water with what we know of him now. Now we're getting to see him be relevant, getting to see him in his actual environment where he feels like this is where he belongs. He's the top dog. But you also get to see the experience as to why he ended up the way he did. We get to kind of peel back the layers of what truly happened in that time. When you were pitched the idea for the series, did they say, “We're thinking of this as a multiple-season series,” or were you told, “We're going to do one season and let's see what happens?” ACKLES: No, I think the intent is to do multiple seasons. When they pitched it, they were like, “Hey, we're thinking about doing this prequel thing, going back to the 1950s with Soldier Boy.” I don't think I let them finish the sentence before I was like, “Yes!” But I know that the intent is to have it be a multi-season show. The first two episodes of The Boys Season 5 premiere on April 8 on Prime Video. New episodes will release every Wednesday.
