A new piece of DC Universe fan art sees Jensen Ackles take on the role of Batman, with a blue and gray Batsuit hearkening back to Adam West’s turn in the role. The DCU currently finds itself in a time of unprecedented upheaval, as newly appointed DC Studios CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran attempt to chart a new course for the comic book franchise.

Ackles, of course, also has the added benefit of having an already-established relationship with the DC character. Not only did he voice Batman’s second protégé Jason Todd in 2010’s animated film Batman: Under the Red Hood, but he also went on to play Bruce Wayne himself for the two-part adaptation of Batman: The Long Halloween. Ackles is also expected to reprise the role once more in this year’s Legion of Super-Heroes.
Of course, at this stage, little is known for certain about what Gunn and Safran might be planning for the DCU’s version of Batman. Nonetheless, Gunn has confirmed that the Dark Knight will indeed play a central role in the franchise’s future moving forward. Whether Ackles will ever get the chance to become a live-action Batman remains to be seen, but his countless fans will likely be keeping their fingers crossed that he's tapped for the highly coveted role.
