In a new interview, JLo opened up about a MeToo experience she once faced during a costume fitting and what it took to stand up for herself
, Renee Zellwegger, Lupita Nyong'o and Laura Dern, the superstar relayed a story about an unnamed director who once asked her to take her top off during an off-set costume fitting in order to see her breasts.
"I said no," Lopez told the other actresses. "I stood up for myself. But it was so funny because I remember being so panicked in the moment. And by the way, there was a costume designer in the room with me. So there was another woman in the room and he says this and I said no. Luckily a little bit of the Bronx came out, and I was like, 'I don't have to show you my -- No. On the set, you see them.
JLo then explained why it felt so important for her to put her foot down against the director's inappropriate request. "That's the thing," she continued, "because if you give in, in that moment, all of a sudden that person is off and running, thinking they can do whatever they want. And because I put up a little boundary right there and said no, he laid off and then later on apologized.
"When I played Selena, one of the things that got me the most in her body was performing," she said. "Because you look at her and you're gonna try to imitate her a little bit and then let that go and just live, right? But the music and the actual performance -- that's what we have that is the real things where you can really watch her, because you didn't get to talk to her in person, which is the hard part. The music was such a big part of it.
