The actor is officially starring in a new, post-apocalyptic movie that begins filming next year, with details already revealed about the film. Ortega's movie and TV show roles have been expanding in recent years, from her popularity as Wednesday Addams in Netflix's Wednesday series, to smaller movies like A24's Death of a Unicorn and the upcoming sci-fi movie Klara and the Sun.
She's starred in a multitude of movies across various genres during her time in the spotlight, always juggling a multitude of projects at the same time. Now, Deadline reports that Ortega will star in the post-apocalyptic movie Lily May B, which is set to begin filming in spring 2027. It will be the seventh movie directed by Leos Carax, best known for his 2012 surrealist drama Holy Motors and the 2021 romantic musical Annette.
Lily May B is an apocalyptic story about a boy and a girl at the end of the world. However, they are each harboring a secret as they ride through the wasteland together on a motorcycle, resulting in an important connection as they discover their place in the world. See the official synopsis below: Once upon a time, there was a little girl, a young woman and a young boy. They each held a secret too heavy to bear.
They met in an ‘end-of-the-world’ world, and together rode a big motorcycle . On their journey, they encountered many dangers, but kept going. In search of who they were; in search of a place to B, maybe?
In addition to the description of the film, Carax offered a small teaser as to what to expect from the movie, stating:"Once upon a time, this is what destroyed us, and this is what kept us alive.
" It doesn't reveal much about what's going to happen, but it adds to the enigmatic description of the film and what it could possibly be about. In the meantime, producer Hugo Sélignac of Mediawan's Chi-Fou-Mi Productions confirms his excitement for the movie and Ortega's involvement: Leos Carax is one of the reasons I fell in love with Cinema. Lily May B carries forward his singular vision with the freedom, raw emotion, and visual power that are uniquely his.
Seeing this universe meet Jenna Ortega’s immense talent today feels simply natural. We will announce in September the whole extraordinary cast. The movie is one of multiple that Ortega has coming up, or that are awaiting a wider theatrical release. This includes The Gallerist, a dark comedy thriller from Cathy Yan that premiered at Sundance in January 2026 to mixed reviews.
Alongside the aforementioned Klara and the Sun, which comes to theaters October 23, she's also starring in J.J. Abrams' new fantasy movie The Great Beyond, due for release on November 13. She's also currently filming for Wednesday season 3 in Paris, France. More to come...
