Winona Ryder is celebrated for her renowned roles across television and film that span decades. In our new series 'Building Character,' Winona dives deep into her most memorable characters, exploring the stories, styles, details and impacts of each role.
Jenna Ortega is sartorially embracing her status as a “scream queen.” With roles in horror projects including Scream, Wednesday, and X, the actor often opts for a gothic look on the red carpet, and her press tour looks for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice are no exception.
After stepping out in a vintage Vivienne Westwood gown and a sculptural, zombie-inspired look, Ortega chose to lean further into her eerie aesthetic on Saturday with a black-and-white pinstripe suit set. Resemblant of spooky style icons Gomez and Morticia Addams—her fictional parents from past project Wednesday—the striped ensemble flaunted a tailored yet gothic feel, hinting that it could be another Vivenne Westwood look. Up top, the actor wore a long-sleeved top complete with a sweetheart neckline, black satin buttons, and a fit that flared at the waist. Below, a matching column skirt extended just below the actor’s knees, and a pair of black Dolce Gabbana Keira heels brought some edge to her modest ensemble. The patent leather platform sandals added some extra height to her look too. Accessories-wise, Ortega wore a pair of silver triangular hoops, as well as a handful of silver diamond rings from Solo for Diamonds. She shielded her eyes with black cat-eye sunglasses, while she sported a cool-toned lip combo that included a brown lip liner and light pink lipstick. A vampy dark red manicure implemented some color to her look, as did a matching pedicure.Ortega wasn’t the only Beetlejuice Beetlejuice star at the New York City photo call, either. In other pictures, she posed alongside cast members from the original 1988 film, including Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara. Monica Bellucci, who plays Beetlejuice’s ex-wife in the upcoming movie, was also present. In the highly anticipated Beetlejuice sequel, Ortega plays Astrid, the teenage daughter of Ryder’s Lydia Deetz. “Everyone wanted to be Lydia after watching the first film,” Ortega said in an interview for Harper’s Bazaar’s August 2024 cover story on Ryder. “She’s so self-assured and smart and ahead of her time.”
