“They don’t have enough without Wiggins to win a championship. With Wiggins, and with Curry playing great, great basketball, they would have a puncher’s chance.”
ESPN analyst Jeff Van Gundy talks prior to the game between the Miami Heat and Philadelphia 76ers on Dec. 18, 2019.ESPN’s Jeff Van Gundy believes the Warriors can’t repeat as champions unless Andrew Wiggins is back on the roster.
Wiggins has been away from Golden State since Feb. 14 with an unspecified personal family matter. Speaking to Steiny and Guru on 95.7 The Game, the former NBA head coach said the 28-year-old swingman’s availability will determine whether the Dubs even have a chance to win back-to-back titles. Even if Wiggins is available, JVG thinks those odds still aren’t great.
“They don’t have enough without Wiggins to win a championship. With Wiggins, and with Curry playing great, great basketball, they would have a puncher’s chance,” Van Gundy said. “If they have their full roster, and they get Payton back as well, then maybe they would have enough.”
