Jeff Gordon Will Run the Porsche Carrera Cup at Indy.
NASCAR legend Jeff Gordon will race for the first time in five years, running two rounds of the Porsche Carrera Cup over Labor Day weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He'll team with Ray Evernham for the first time since 1999.
Gordon will be in the Invitational class for two Carrera Cup races, which will be held as part of Porsche's now annual Sportscar Together Festival in Indy. As you'd expect, he'll be in the #24 car. "I'm looking forward to getting back in a race car and competing against a talented field of teams and drivers," said Gordon in a statement."It's always special when I get a chance to compete at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Ray Evernham and I have always talked about running another race together, and we felt like Indy was the perfect place. It'll be a fun way to spend the holiday weekend and make some new memories.
Gordon has a record five wins at NASCAR's Brickyard 400 and drove the IMS road course in 2003 as part of a car swap with Juan Pablo Montoya. He'll first get in the 911 GT3 Cup on Friday the 2nd for practice, with qualifying and the first race set for the following day, and another race on the 4th. The NASCAR champ's last race was the Rolex 24 at Daytona in 2017, which he won driving with Wayne Taylor Racing. He hasn't raced full-time since 2015, with a few appearances in 2016 filling in for an injured Dale Earnhardt Jr.
