The Jeep was found parked several blocks away from the crime scene on the 5000 block of Rorer Street. Scurry, a junior at Samuel Fels High School, was preparing to leave for school when he was struck by multiple gunshots. He was transported to Albert Einstein Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities believe the incident was a targeted attack, with nearly two dozen shots fired. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and there have been no public updates on potential suspects. Following the tragedy, Samuel Fels High School Principal Melissa Rasper sent a letter to the school community expressing her grief. 'It is with a heavy heart that I write to inform you of the passing of one of our students whose life was tragically taken this morning,' she wrote. Scurry was a well-liked member of the school community, known for his bright personality and athleticism. He played on the school's basketball team and recently achieved the highest SAT score among his peers. Sophomore Mohamed Elfaki described Scurry as someone who brought joy to every room he entered. 'Whenever he entered the room, the room always lit, there was always a smile on someone’s face when they’re around him,' he said. The School District of Philadelphia has made grief counseling available to students and staff struggling to cope with the loss. School District spokesperson Monique Braxton praised Scurry, calling him an exceptional teenager with no disciplinary issues. 'This teenager that was killed was exceptional,' she stated. 'No problems from him whatsoever according to the principal and other staff members.
