Jeep tells 2014-2016 Cherokee owners to park outside due to fire risk.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles US has issued a recall and a park-outside warning for owners of 2014-2016 Jeep Cherokee models. According toTuesday morning, an electrical short in the power liftgate module poses a fire risk with the ignition on or off. Until a fix is performed, FCA US urges owners of potentially affected vehicles to park outside and away from any structures., FCA US believes that of the 132,099 recalled, potentially one percent are affected.
FCA previously issued two recalls for the Cherokee's power liftgate module in 2015 as water could get into the system and cause a short. This new recall supersedes those two recalls, meaning that if you own a Cherokee that's had a power-liftgate recall performed already, you have to get your car fixed again.
Cherokees built after September 9, 2015 are not affected by the recall. Stellantis recently ended production of the KL-generation Cherokee, and the model was not replaced.Chris Perkins is the Web Editor for Road & Track magazine.
