French new wave director Jean-Luc Godard, known for films including À Bout De Souffle, Alphaville and Pierrot Le Fou, has died at the age of 91.
Friends close to the French-Swiss filmmaker shared news of his death on Tuesday with French newspaper Liberation. A radical director with over 130 films to his name, Godard burst onto the scene with his first feature-length film À Bout De Souffle, released as Breathless in the UK, in 1960, starring Jean Seberg.Born in Paris in 1930, Godard grew up and attended school in Switzerland before returning to the French capital in 1949.
