Ohio Sen. JD Vance, the Republican nominee for vice president, suggested Wednesday that rhetoric from Democrats could prompt an attack on Donald Trump.
Republican vice presidential nominee Sen. JD Vance said Wednesday that Democrats should "pump the brakes" on the rhetoric about former President Donald Trump before they prompt people to "take crazy actions and take matters into their own hands." Vance is seen here Wednesday at an appearance in Valdosta, Ga.
Speakers at this week’s DNC have been highly critical of Trump, portraying him as a threat to individual rights, especially women’s ability to make decisions about their bodies. They’ve accused him caring only about himself and wealthy Americans without regard for the middle class. And they have warned he seeks to establish an authoritarian government.
Vance, in comments to reporters, suggested that rhetoric arguing Trump was a threat to democracy who must be stopped could have led to the attack, The Hill reported. FBI investigators identified Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, as the man who tried to shoot Trump. He was shot and killed by counter-sniper officers at the Butler rally.
