JB factory operator claims trial to deadly DUI charge

JOHOR BARU : A factory operator was charged at a Magistrate's Court here for driving under the influence of alcohol, resulting in the death of a man on Sunday .

According to the charge sheet, the accused was driving an SUV with a blood alcohol content of 173 milligrammes per 100 millilitres , causing the death of a 17-year-old motorcyclist. The accused was charged under Section 44 of the Road Transport Act 1987 and is liable to be punished under Section 44 of the same act , which carries a maximum prison sentence of 15 years and a fine of up to RM100,000 if found guilty.

The case was prosecuted by the police Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department prosecution officer Insp S. Vikineswary while the accused was represented by R. Sangaran.
