If the family of a 13-year-old shot and killed inside the Alderwood Mall in early July gets their way, Washington will get tougher on juveniles who commit crime
Jayda Woods-Johnson was shot and killed in the Alderwood mall food court by a 16-year-old boy on July 3, 2024. Woods-Johnson was uninvolved in a preceding altercation between two groups, police said. . In short, Tabatha Johnson is calling for no bail and no release for juveniles arrested for serious crimes such as investigation of murder.
Jayda was shot in the back of her right shoulder as she and a friend were leaving the mall's food court. She died on the way to the hospital.. Her mom said while she and her husband and Jayda's two young brothers were grieving Jayda's sudden and tragic passing, Gizaw and his family were together on July 4th.
But now comes a court motion that has further upset Johnson. The defense has filed a motion to reduce the teen's current bail. That hearing is set for September 4th.calling for a "no bail, no release" for juveniles suspected of serious crimes, such as murder. Among other things, it also calls for a minimum hold time of up to 72 hours and asks for a 6-month mandatory sentence for juveniles found in illegal possession of a firearm even if there is no prior criminal history.
