This image taken from Oct. 2 police body camera video shows Erik Cantu driving away as then-San Antonio Police Officer James Brennand shoots at Cantu’s car outside a McDonald’s in the 11700 block of Blanco Road. Cantu remains hospitalized following the shooting, and Brennand has been fired by the San Antonio Police Department and arrested on two counts of aggravated assault by a public servant.

LaHood, who was district attorney from 2015 to 2019, was not listed in court filings as part of Brennand’s defense team, as of Friday afternoon. LaHood’s brother, Marc LaHood, is running for district attorney against incumbent Joe Gonzales. James Brennand, 27, who was arrested in connection with the shooting of 17-year-old Erik Cantu while Brennand was a rookie police officer, is being represented by Nicholas LaHood, a former Bexar County district attorney.Jay Norton of the LaHood Norton Law Group, shown during a February 2019 hearing for convicted child killer Genene Jones, is representing James Brennand, the former San Antonio police officer who shot at 17-year-old Erik Cantu on Oct. 2.
