Jay Leno, a renowned car collector and former late-night talk show host, has been actively involved in relief efforts for the devastating wildfires sweeping through California. He has drawn comparisons between the current crisis and the aftermath of 9/11, emphasizing the remarkable sense of unity and community that has emerged in response to the tragedy.
Jay Leno , a well-known car enthusiast and former late-night talk show host, expressed a poignant observation about the unity he witnessed amidst the devastating wildfires ravaging California. He drew a parallel with the aftermath of 9/11 , noting the remarkable sense of community that emerged in the face of tragedy. Leno remarked, 'The last I remember was 9/11 . The sense of community.
For three or four days, everybody put aside their political beliefs and who's on your lawn on a sign and all that nonsense. And it's happening here today. I mean, it's a shame that's what it takes.' Leno wasn't merely observing; he was actively participating in the relief efforts. He utilized his vintage fire truck, a 1941 American LaFrance, to provide meals for the firefighting crews battling the blazes. He stated, 'We're cooking for the crews and, well, you guys, if you're hungry, we got a big barbecue going, because, you know, they're all getting boxed lunches. We figured, let's get some hot food. So it's kinda fun. I drove a 1941 American LaFrance fire truck.' His efforts were focused on the Palisades Fire, considered one of the most destructive in California history. As of Friday, the widespread fires had consumed over 10,000 structures. Leno vividly recounted the devastation, comparing it to the scale of Hiroshima or a similar cataclysmic event. 'Not that 9/11 was a natural disaster, but it's literally on that scale,' he said. 'I mean, it's 10,000 buildings. If you drove all day, you couldn't see 10,000 buildings. I mean, you get on that hill and you look for miles and there's nothing. It looks like Hiroshima or just some horrible thing.' Amidst the tragedy, Leno also highlighted the heartwarming stories of neighbors helping neighbors, individuals who came together to support each other in their time of need
