Actor Jason Momoa is set to star in and produce a new family adventure film that has been acquired by Amazon MGM after being dropped by Universal Studios .
The project, originally spec'd by writers Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows, was picked up by Universal in 2022 but was put into turnaround due to shifting budgetary priorities. Amazon MGM, having recently worked with Momoa on the successful action comedy The Wrecking Crew, quickly moved to secure the film. Jonathan Eirich of Rideback and Jeff Fierson will produce.
The story is described as a family-centric adventure with tonal nods to James Cameron's True Lies, the Taken series, and The Lost City. The project remains in development, with Momoa not expecting to shoot it next due to his packed schedule. He recently exited Sony's Helldivers and is slated to appear as Lobo in DC Studios' Supergirl, alongside projects like Legendary's Street Fighter and Dune: Part Three.
His reps are at WME, while Mider and Burrows are represented by WME and Silver Lake Entertainment.
